Retirement Calculator

Project your retirement savings, adjust for inflation, and find any monthly shortfall.

How this calculator works

Enter your age, retirement age, current savings, monthly contributions, expected return and inflation. Add the yearly income you'd like in retirement in today's money and a safe withdrawal rate. The calculator projects your balance at retirement, inflates your income goal to future money, converts it into a target nest egg, and shows the extra monthly saving needed to close any gap.

About the withdrawal rate

The widely cited 4% guideline suggests a balanced portfolio could historically support inflation-adjusted withdrawals of around 4% a year for about 30 years. A lower rate is more cautious and requires a bigger nest egg. Treat it as a planning heuristic, not a guarantee.
